All four suspects were charged with injury to a child and abandoning and endangering a child.
WYLIE, Texas — Wylie Police say four people are facing charges for the death of an 11-year-old boy.
Police say just before 5:30 p.m. on Monday, they got a call about a child unresponsive at home in the 1600 block of Long Meadows Road. The boy was rushed to the hospital, but he did not survive.
“We all in this department have children. And to see a young man lose his life from a family member, that’s disgusting,” said Sgt. Donald English with Wylie Police.
On Tuesday, Wylie detectives executed a search warrant, obtaining arrest warrants for 28-year-old Sadie Hope, 67-year-old Clifford Johnson, 46-year-old Eunice Johnson-Lightsey and 30-year-old Sade Hope-Johnson York.
Police confirm the four people arrested include the boy’s grandfather, two cousins, and an aunt. Sources tell WFAA the individuals involved have a history with Child Protective Services.
“It is very disturbing to our officers, and they take it very seriously,” English said.
According to police, officers noticed visible bruises on the boy’s body. That prompted them to return to the home on Tuesday with a search warrant.
Inside the house were other children, none of whom appeared to be physically injured, but officers believe some may have witnessed what happened, according to English.
“The other kids in the house that have possibly heard or witnessed something… now they’re stuck with this for the rest of their lives,” English added.
Wylie PD said those children are being taken into CPS custody.
Police have charged all four suspects with injury to a child and abandoning and endangering a child. The investigation is still open, and police may seek additional charges, officials said.
