Wednesday’s Child: 9-year-old Zachary awaiting his forever family

Zachary needs a loving family to support his joyful spirit and growing potential.

WESTLAKE, Texas — When you meet Wednesday’s Child 9-year-old Zachary, your heart melts. He is pure of heart and needs a family who will treasure him.

WFAA met with Zachary and his court-appointed special advocate, or CASA, Susan Valentine, at Pinstack in Westlake. His spirit and smile lit up the entire bowling alley, and it didn’t take him long to bowl a strike. Zachary loves bowling, Paw Patrol, and anything that runs on batteries.

“So, if you’re bringing him a toy, he says he wants batteries with that,” said Valentine.

Zachary is a child full of joy, adventure, and heart. WFAA asked Valentine to describe him.

“I just get emotional. He’s loving. He loves people. He’s happy,” she said with tears in her eyes.

As his CASA, Valentine is the only constant for Zachary during this uncertain time in his life. Her job is to be his voice and ultimately to ensure he finds a permanent loving home. Valentine says she has watched Zachary grow from a non-verbal 7-year-old into the thriving boy you see today.

“He has progressed so tremendously in the last two years. I see the potential in him, and I think he just needs to be loved,” she said.

Zachary has a unique case in that he sees his biological mother once a month. Valentine calls it a blessing, but underscores how much he needs a forever home with parents who can nurture his spirit and believe in his potential.

“Zachary needs a loving home. He has a sweet heart and a sweet spirit,” she said.

This child has taught those around him that everyone has a purpose, and now, it’s time for Zachary to find a family that sees his purpose.

“I pray that he gets the family that can carry him through his years ahead and who he can be.”

Today, he’s knocking down pins, but what Zachary really wants is to knock on the heart of a forever family.
