At a Wednesday morning press conference, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg blasted Governor Greg Abbott for his decision to deploy Texas National Guard troops to the city ahead of anti-Trump protests. Police Chief William McManus and City Manager Erik Walsh joined the mayor at the event. Nirenberg said Alamo City leaders hadn’t requested the troops, “nor did we get advance warning.” McManus called for protesters to remain peaceful at Wednesday’s anti-ICE demonstration at 7 p.m., which he said will be held at the Alamo.
