A major crash on the Tomball Parkway was reportedly caused by lightning.
TOMBALL, Texas — Early Monday morning, the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office posted on Facebook about a vehicle that had crashed on the Tomball Parkway. The cause of the crash was due to a lightning strike, officials said.
The vehicle was left on the side of the road.
According to a photo posted on Facebook, ambulances pulled up to the scene along with the fire department.
With morning storms moving through Houston, people needed to be careful during their morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service, it’s vital to stay inside the vehicle during severe weather events. The cars “provide protection to those inside a vehicle with the windows closed.”
While one remains safe inside their car during a lightning strike, the car’s electrical system could be damaged. Another statement by the National Weather Service said the lightning strike “may damage or destroy electronic components, potentially leaving the car inoperable.”
Make sure to monitor roadway conditions before your daily commute and stay inside the vehicle during storms.
