Witnesses reported seeing a man whose lower legs were engulfed in flames, and said they tried to put out the fire.
HOUSTON — Houston police are investigating the death of a man found on fire near San Jacinto College South in southeast Houston.
Around 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, witnesses reported the victim’s legs were fully engulfed in a field on Astoria Boulevard and Beamer Road, west of the Gulf Freeway. They unsuccessfully tried to put out the fire while waiting for first responders.
The Houston Fire Department and Houston Police Department rushed to the scene. Firefighters put out the fire, but it was too late. The unidentified man didn’t survive.
HPD investigators found an e-bike and a gas can nearby. Now, they’re trying to determine how the fire started.
HFD arson investigators and the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences are also part of the investigation.
