Child injured in accidental shooting in Fort Worth

A child in Fort Worth remains in stable condition after being accidentally shot by a misfired gun.

FORT WORTH, Texas — A child was injured in an accidental shooting Sunday evening in Fort Worth, according to police.

Officers responded to a shooting call in the 3600 block of Ada Avenue at approximately 6:54 p.m. By the time officers arrived, the child had already been taken to a local hospital by a family member.

According to police, the family told investigators a family member was cleaning the gun when it misfired. The child was hit by a ricocheted bullet, police say.

The child is reported to be in stable condition and is expected to recover, authorities said.

Detectives with the Fort Worth Police Department are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
