AUSTIN (KXAN) — When some of us think about the spring season, two things come to mind. First, we know that temperatures are going to warm and, second, we think of spring to be our wettest season.
Summer is the season when we’ve grown to expect comments along the lines of “this is the hottest month on record” or “this is the hottest summer on record”.
But spring? The warmest spring on record? Well, yes.
Spring 2025 goes down as the warmest spring ever in Austin with an average temperature of 73.7°. That’s even with the last few days of May being at or below normal. It earned the top spot by one-tenth of a degree, edging out the Spring of 2011 (73.6°). Remember 2011? 90 days of triple-digit highs.
Breaking down the numbers a little more found that the average high temperature in March, April, and May was 85.7°. That places Spring of 2025 in second place for high temps., behind the 86.4° in 1925. There were only two afternoons when the thermometer rose to triple digits. Highs of 101° were recorded on May 13th and 14th.
As for low temperatures, the average low was 61.6°, tied for 6th place with 2011. The warmest spring season low was set just last year with an average of 63.0°.
The total rainfall in spring is 10.34″. It breaks down to 2.88″ in March (the sixth wettest month), 2.42″ in April (surprisingly only the 10th wettest month), and 5.04″ in May (the wettest month).

The total rain for this year’s spring season was 10.49″, slightly higher than normal. This makes the Spring of 2025 the 50th wettest.
It looked like the total would be lower entering the final week of May. But from the 26th to the 30th, 4.59″ was measured to show a positive gain, such as it was. March and April had below normal rain (1.83″ and 2.07″ respectively) while May lived up to its No. 1 ranking with a total of 6.59″
Summer is upon us, and with it comes these forecasts from the Climate Prediction Center. They came as no surprise to us here in the weather office. First, June, July, and August are expected to be warmer than normal (the three-month average is 85.1°. June is Austin’s 3rd hottest month, July 2nd and August 1st.

Total rain for these three months is 8.38″. June is our 3rd wettest month, July the 11th wettest, and August the 7th wettest. This summer is expected to be near normal to drier than normal, with much of that drier forecast for the Hill Country.

Again, nothing to see here. Almost like business as usual.
