HOUSTON — Two Houston Police Officers were hurt in a fiery crash early Sunday morning while responding to a call in northeast Houston.

The crash happened shortly after midnight on Homestead Road near St. Louis Street north of the North Loop.

HPD said the officers were headed north on Homestead with emergency equipment activated when a car hit them while leaving a parking lot or from a side street. Shortly after the crash, the patrol car caught fire.

A good Samaritan in a wrecker truck stopped and helped the officers out of the patrol car. The two officers were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

HPD said the suspect took off. They said they do have information on the suspect, but have not yet released it.

Both officers have been with HPD for about a year.
