The Plano Police Department said 25-year-old Kelvin Joseph Jr., who sources confirm is the former Dallas Cowboys player, called them and said he’d been in a crash.
DALLAS — A 27-year-old woman riding a motorcycle died Saturday morning on U.S. Highway 75, which shut down northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 75 for more than three hours, according to police.
Richardson police said officers responded to the crash just before 5 a.m. Saturday morning to the fatal crash. The motorcyclist, identified by police as Cody Morris, was pronounced dead at the scene, Richardson PD said.
Richardson police said there were not any other vehicles or people located at the crash scene.
Then, at approximately 5:39 a.m., the Plano Police Department said 25-year-old Kelvin Joseph Jr., who sources confirm is the former Dallas Cowboys cornerback, called them and said he’d been involved in a crash. Richardson police contacted Joseph determined he traveling was northbound on U.S. 75 in a BMW sedan when he was involved in a collision with a motorcycle.
Police said officers observed signs of intoxication while speaking to Joseph. He was arrested and charged with DWI and collision involving personal injury or death. Joseph was in Richardson City Jail Saturday afternoon. His bond had not been set as of this writing.
The highway lanes reopened at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, TxDOT cameras showed.
Joseph was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2021 Draft and spent two seasons with Dallas. He bounced from team to team from 2023 to 2024, playing for the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts and Minnesota Vikings. He joined the DC Defenders in the UFL for the 2025 season.
Joseph was previously cleared in a murder investigation from a shooting that happened in March 2022, where he was questioned as a person of interest. The shooting happened on March 18, 2022 outside of the OT Tavern Bar and Grill in Lower Greenville. Police sources told WFAA back in April 2022 that Joseph was in the suspects’ vehicle at the time of the shooting, but they did not officially specify Joseph’s possible involvement in the case. Two people both from Louisiana were arrested in connection to the 2022 shooting.
WFAA has reached out to the UFL and D.C. Defenders for comment. The D.C. Defenders are set to play against the St. Louis Battlehawks for the XFL Conference Championship on Sunday, June 8.
