Teen charged with capital murder in Grand Prairie shooting

The shooting occurred back on April 27, 2025.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas — An 18-year-old man was arrested and charged with capital murder for his involvement in a deadly shooting in Grand Prairie back on April 27, police said.

According to Grand Prairie police, at around 4:30 p.m. that day, officers responded to the 2400 block of West Tarrant Road to the report of a shooting. Once on the scene, police said officers found a man outside his vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Grand Prairie PD said the suspect fled the area before the officers arrived, and based on the evidence at the scene, they believed the man who was killed was engaging in “high-risk” activity when the shooting happened.

One month later, on May 27, Grand Prairie PD said they were able to arrest Keionn Winters, 18, after detectives identified him as the suspect in the shooting.

Police said the arrest was made with help from the United States Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force.

According to Grand Prairie PD, Winters is currently at the Grand Prairie Detention Center on a capital murder charge. His bond is set at $1 million.
