JC Penney closing North Texas distribution center

The JCPenney Alliance Regional Logistics Center will permanently shutter on or around Nov. 1, according to the WARN letter.

A large JCPenney distribution center in North Texas is shutting down, leading to nearly 300 job cuts.

The retail giant notified the state June 3 that all 296 workers at the 1.1 million-square-foot JCPenney Alliance Regional Logistics Center in Haslet will lose their jobs as part of the facility closing. The layoffs will happen in two waves, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining letter. The first will impact 42 workers starting Aug. 1. The remaining 254 cuts will occur in November.

Earlier this year, JCPenney and New York-based Sparc Group LLC, which manages various retailers, merged to form Plano-based parent company Catalyst Brands. The deal created a retail powerhouse overseeing brands from Aéropostale to Nautica, with more than $9 billion in annual revenue. Since the January merger, the company initiated a 5% corporate workforce cut and announced nationwide store closures.
