AUSTIN (KXAN) — Game 2 of the Women’s College World Series finals will have to wait on Mother Nature.
Lightning and storms in the Oklahoma City area will delay the game between the Texas Longhorns and Texas Tech Red Raiders. KXAN’s Noah Gross is at Devon Park, and officials told him the game will not start before 7:45 p.m. CDT at the earliest. The game was originally set to begin at 7 p.m.
KXAN Chief Meteorologist Nick Bannin said around 5:30 p.m. that the storms in the area will stick around for about another 60-90 minutes.
Texas won a wild Game 1 2-1 thanks to a 2-run single by catcher Reese Atwood while Texas Tech was trying to walk her intentionally. Red Raiders pitcher NiJaree Canady was attempting to throw four consecutive balls to put Atwood on base, but the fourth one was too close to the strike zone, and Atwood took advantage of that. She slapped a grounder to left field, scoring Kayden Henry and Mia Scott in the sixth inning to take the lead.
Texas hung on for the win and is now one win from the program’s first national championship. The Red Raiders can force a Game 3 Friday with a win tonight.
