District 6 is experiencing a surge in residential development and has seen about $290 million in commercial investments.
FORT WORTH, Texas — Both Daryl Davis and Dr. Mia Hall hope to win the runoff for the Fort Worth District 6 City Council seat.
“Public service is something that I believe that I’ve been called to,“ said Daryl Davis. “I just have an innate desire to serve my community,” said Dr. Mia Hall.
The district has seen its share of violent crime. During the Fourth of July weekend last year, gun violence claimed the lives of two young girls during a shooting at a West Cleburne Road car wash. Public Safety is at the top of the list for both candidates.
“I think about how we’re going to work with our youth and stop gun violence,” Hall said. “And I think about how we are going to help take care of each other.”
For Davis, he said he wants to identify the cause of these issues.
“Make sure that our police department is adequately staffed, but we also have to deal with some of the root issues of crime,” Davis added. “And some of those root issues could be education, but it certainly is also poverty.”
Outgoing District 6 Councilman Dr. Jared Williams shared the following statement:
“After much prayer, reflection, and conversations with my family, I have been led to deepen my lifelong pursuit of God’s love, mercy, and justice through ministry…I have decided not to seek re-election.”
District 6 is experiencing a surge in residential development and has seen about $290 million in commercial investments, including new retail centers, medical facilities, and restaurants.
“We can’t just focus solely on the areas of our district that are growing. We have some established communities that need some TLC as well,“ Davis said.
“We also want to have medical offices where we can go. We want a sustainable community that we can walk in, that we can work in, that we can shop in,” Hall added.
Dr. Mia Hall earned a doctorate in educational leadership, served as executive director of strategic recruitment for Fort Worth ISD, and has held roles including president of the Crowley ISD school board and Fort Worth zoning commissioner. Daryl R. Davis II is an ordained pastor with a master’s degree in educational leadership. He was elected to the Crowley ISD Board and has held leadership roles in nonprofits such as the YMCA.
Whoever wins the June 7 runoff will become the second newest councilmember responsible for helping lead one of the fastest-growing cities in the nation. Both Davis and Hall plan to spend the day before the runoff doing last-minute campaigning.
“I pride myself on being responsive to the needs of the community,” said Dr. Hall.
“We should be found working in the district that we were elected to serve,” Davis said.
