Blocking bike lane now a fineable offense in Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN)– Austin’s brand-new car parking code enforcement entered into effect June 1 adhering to a three-month public education period.

According to the city, cautions for vehicle parking code infractions that began March 1 have switched over to enforceable penalties.

“The modifications include 3 new offenses, much easier music tools filling processes, clarity on delivery and passenger zones and some boosted fine amounts among other changes,” the city stated.

The brand-new offenses include:

  • Obstructing an authorized or marked bike lane– a $ 50 – 75 fine
  • Blocking an electrical vehicle charging terminal– a $ 35 – 50 great
  • Obstructing a right-of-way closure location during unique events– a $ 125 – 250 great
