Off-duty Harris County sergeant eliminated in bike accident

A U-Haul motorist encounters charges after purportedly fatally striking off-duty Sgt. Manuel Edwards on his bike near Katy, Texas.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas– An off-duty sergeant with the Harris Area Precinct 2 Constable’s Workplace was eliminated in a bike crash Tuesday early morning, according to the Fort Bend County Constable’s Workplace.

It happened after 8 a.m. on Gaston Road near Katy Flewellen Roadway in the Katy area.

FBCSO claimed the sergeant, recognized as 55 -year-old Manuel Edwards, was riding his bike northbound on Gaston Road when he was struck by a U-Haul vehicle.

Edwards was taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The vehicle driver of the U-Haul, Earlie Gibbs, 63, was charged with failing to stop and provide aid and intoxication murder.

The examination is ongoing.
