AUSTIN (KXAN)– Katie Stewart’s fly ball in the 4th inning simply maintained going.
The Texas left fielder drove a riseball towards her Tennessee counterpart Alannah Leach, and while it was in the air, Leach showed up to have a beat on it. That is, till she knocked into the wall and the sphere dropped a few feet beyond the fencing for a solo home run, providing the Longhorns the only run they needed to progress to the program’s 3rd Women’s University World Collection championship collection in the past four seasons.
Texas won the bottles’ duel 2 -0 over the Woman Volunteers on Monday at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, removing Tennessee from the tournament and raising the Longhorns closer to an evasive national title. The Longhorns will encounter either Texas Technology or Oklahoma when the champion series starts Wednesday.
Stewart offered the success, and the pitching tandem of Mac Morgan and Teagan Kavan prevented Tennessee’s hitters. Morgan functioned the first four innings, tying a period high with 4 strikeouts and permitting 3 hits with well-located dropballs, and Kavan completed the game by not enabling a hit in 3 innings, utilizing power riseballs and changeups to go out. Stewart ended the game 2 -for- 3 at the plate, including a single in the sixth inning. Tennessee assistant instructor Craig Snider was ejected from the game in the 4th inning for arguing balls and strikes.
Texas Technology and Oklahoma play at 6 p.m. in the other semifinal. If the Red Raiders win, they’ll face the Longhorns in the champion collection. A Sooners victory means the teams will play an additional game right away afterward to determine who bets the title. Texas Technology hasn’t lost in the tournament, and Oklahoma fell 4 – 2 to Texas on Saturday.
