Dione Sims, Lee’s granddaughter, claims Lee is succeeding and waiting on discharge orders.
FT WELL WORTH, Texas– Opal Lee, considered the “Granny of Juneteenth,” was recently hospitalized, but her family members says she is succeeding.
“She is succeeding and in great spirits,” Lee’s granddaughter, Dione Sims, said in a declaration. “We are waiting on discharge orders.”
It’s not known right now why Lee was hospitalized or for how long she has gone to the health center.
Lee received the “Granny of Juneteenth” name for her efforts to turn the day commemorating Black freedom from enslavement into a legal holiday, got a Presidential Medal of Flexibility from President Joe Biden in 2015 and has actually been nominated for a Nobel Peace Reward. She hosted her yearly Stroll for Flexibility in Dallas for the first time last June.
