A woman died after a stabbing at a north Harris County apartment complex. Investigators said a man was detained after fleeing the scene with a knife.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A woman died after being stabbed at an apartment complex in the Spring area early Friday morning, and investigators say a man was detained after deputies found him fleeing the scene with a knife.
Deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to a weapons disturbance call on Northcrest Drive, just south of Spring Stuebner Road, around 3:35 a.m. Friday.
According to Constable Mark Herman’s Office, deputies arrived and found a woman suffering from critical stab wounds to her neck and stomach. Deputies rendered aid while EMS crews responded. The woman was taken to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
“Upon arrival, deputies found a female with multiple lacerations in her apartment,” Lt. Abraham Alanis of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit said. “The female was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.”
Man detained after fleeing scene
Authorities said a male suspect attempted to flee the area after the stabbing.
According to investigators, the man was caught leaving the scene with a knife.
“The male was detained and is currently detained for questioning,” Alanis said.
Investigators confirmed the man was stunned with a Taser as deputies attempted to take him into custody.
“He was tased as they were trying to get him in custody,” Alanis said.
Authorities said the suspect was taken to a hospital before being taken for questioning.
Investigation continues
Investigators said the man was coming down a ladder connected to the apartment where the victim was found. No one else was found inside.
Authorities are working to gather surveillance video, process the crime scene and obtain a search warrant for the apartment as the investigation continues.
Investigators said it is still too early to determine what led to the stabbing or whether the victim and suspect knew each other.
“We’re still looking into that,” Alanis said when asked about the circumstances surrounding the case.
Authorities also said they do not believe the incident poses an ongoing threat to the public.
“I think this was an internal thing, so I don’t think there’s any danger to the public,” Alanis said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
