PEARLAND, Texas — Pearland police are warning residents about social media posts promoting a possible “town takeover” gathering in the city, saying the event is not authorized and that arrests could be made if laws are broken.
In a statement posted on social media, the Pearland Police Department said it is aware of “social media posts and online discussions encouraging a potential ‘town takeover’ gathering within our city.”
Police emphasized that the gathering is not approved by the city.
“This event is not authorized,” the department said. “Any violations of the law will be addressed, and arrests made when necessary.”
Officials also warned residents about the possible legal consequences tied to unlawful behavior during the gathering.
The department urged parents and guardians to stay involved and aware of their children’s activities as concerns surrounding the event continue to circulate online.
“Parents and guardians, we encourage you to be proactive and involved with your youth,” the department said.
Police said protecting residents, businesses, visitors and young people remains a top priority.
“The safety of our residents, visitors, businesses, and young people remains our top priority, and we will not tolerate conduct that threatens public safety,” the department said.
The department is also encouraging community members to report suspicious or unsafe activity.
“We also encourage our community to report suspicious or unsafe activity to us immediately,” the statement said.
