Man, 23, believed to have shot and killed his mother at Montgomery County home

Michael Levi Flores, 23, crashed during his escape attempt, investigators said. He was taken into custody and is expected to be charged with murder.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — A 23-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after investigators said he shot and killed his mother and crashed while trying to get away.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the initial 911 call came in around 5:20 a.m. The caller reported that a family member was threatening others in a home on Beeson Road with a gun.

Another 911 call came in a short time later, reporting that a vehicle had crashed near the home on Beeson Road.

Deputies responded to the area and found Michael Levi Flores, 23. He was identified as the suspect who was threatening family members with a gun and also who wrecked the vehicle nearby. Initially, authorities said he resisted arrest and fought with deputies who were trying to take him into custody.

Non-lethal tactics were used to get him into custody. No deputies were injured during the arrest.

Other responding deputies went to the home on Beeson, where they found Jana Flores dead. She had been shot to death. Jana Flores, 50, was identified as Michael Levi Flores’ mother.

Investigators said Michael Flores was taken to an area hospital for evaluation. They said he will be taken to the Montgomery County Jail when he’s released from the hospital.

Circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unknown. Investigators said there was at least one other family member in the house at the time of the shooting.

He’s expected to be charged with murder, according to MCSO officials.
