Ground broken on 56-acre park in Katy with trails and floating boardwalk that also helps with flooding

KATY, Texas — A 56-acre park in Katy that aims to increase connectivity in the area and doubles as flood-mitigation infrastructure has broken ground.

The regional park, called Legacy Park, will serve as the centerpiece of the Legacy Prairie at Katy Court community, the western phase of the approximately 650-home Katy Court community. The park will be located near Katy Hockley Road, increasing connectivity to the nearby The Green at Katy Park. That 46-acre mixed-use development is across the street from Katy Park, a 100-acre youth sports complex with baseball and soccer fields, which attracts more than 800,000 visitors per year.

“Legacy Park is a reflection of how we think about land,” Jake Rucka, director of development at Parkside Capital, said in a news release. “We’re taking what is traditionally a functional drainage requirement and elevating it into something that drives value not just for our investors, but for the families and communities that live here.”
