AUSTIN (KXAN) — The rapid growth of Bastrop County’s population has led to an expanded contract for health services in the region.
County commissioners and Acadian have reached an agreement to extend their contract, which will now include three additional ambulances compared to the previous arrangement for the “newly established Bastrop County Emergency Services District #3,” as stated in a news release.
“This represents a significant step forward for Bastrop County,” stated Bastrop County Judge Gregory Klaus in the announcement. “The Commissioners Court has appointed a robust leadership team of EMS professionals and community specialists to oversee the new ESD. Their guidance will ensure ongoing excellence and innovation in emergency services.”
For almost a decade, “Acadian has delivered EMS services through a no-subsidy contract with Bastrop County,” the release noted. Currently, Acadian operates ambulances stationed in Bastrop, Smithville, Elgin, and Cedar Creek.
With the new contract, “Acadian will deploy five ambulances operating 24 hours and two for 12 hours, alongside a 24-hour clinical supervisor.”
The city of Bastrop alone is projected to experience approximately 40% growth over the next five years. The new contract is anticipated to be finalized “in the coming days.”
