The family of Danna Rodriguez, a 17-year-old who died in a mini-bike crash, is celebrating her life, remembering her joyful spirit and dreams of becoming a doctor.
TOMBALL, Texas — For the first time, we’re hearing from the family of a 17-year-old girl killed in a mini-bike crash while on her way to school in north Harris County.
Family and friends gathered Saturday at a family compound in Tomball to celebrate the life of Danna Rodriguez, remembering the Klein Collins High School junior as a bright light who brought joy, love and laughter to those around her.
“We are celebrating her life because she was the light for everyone,” said her 16-year-old brother, Elias Rodriguez.
Elias shared memories of a sister he described as someone who made people feel comfortable simply being themselves.
“Donna was just a person you could just always be yourself around,” he said.
The siblings were especially close. Elias said they attended Klein Collins High School together and did nearly everything side by side. Danna, a junior, dreamed of becoming a doctor.
“You know, I did everything around her,” he said.
That included riding to school together the morning tragedy struck last Friday.
Elias said they were each riding their gas-powered mini-bikes when Danna lost control and crashed near Ella Boulevard and Wied Road in north Harris County. She suffered a head injury and later died at the hospital.
“It was a good morning, and I would have never expected that, you know, her to be away from me now forever,” Elias said.
Through unimaginable grief, the family says faith is helping carry them forward.
Danna’s mother, Paola Rodriguez, described her daughter as loving, always showing kindness to others and always smiling.
Her father, Angel Rodriguez, said the gathering was not only about mourning but also about celebrating Danna’s life because they believe they will see her again one day.
That same faith-filled outlook is shared by Elias, who says his sister’s spirit and light continue to stay with him.
“I feel like she had a heart pure, like a diamond and it would shine everywhere I went with her,” he said.
Saturday’s celebration of life included music, photos, flowers and loved ones dressed in white — honoring a teenager her family says brought light wherever she went.
