Target is rolling out redesigned shopping carts with new family-friendly features

The updated carts include larger cupholders, more basket space and a deeper child seat as Target refreshes the in-store experience.

WASHINGTON — Target is rolling out redesigned shopping carts to select stores as part of a broader effort to update the in-store experience.

The retailer said the new carts, called the “Series 3 All Plastic Cart,” were designed to be easier to maneuver, more durable and more environmentally friendly.

Target said the redesign was developed with input from shoppers, particularly families, after the company’s store design team began reevaluating the carts in 2020.

The updated carts feature ergonomic handles, larger cupholders, increased basket space and a deeper child seat — designed to be more secure and comfortable, according to the company.

The retailer also said the carts are fully recyclable and built with modular components that can be replaced individually, which could help extend the carts’ lifespan and reduce waste over time.

“Thoughtful design plays an important role in making shopping easier,” Target said.

The redesigned carts are already available at some locations and will continue rolling out gradually, the company said.
