A few storms may return Sunday as heat builds

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Beneficial rainfall and now a quiet near-term period settles into Central Texas.

Tonight we’ll have a partly to mostly cloudy sky with generally dry weather except for a stray sprinkle.

Overnight lows drop into the upper 60s by daybreak Saturday.

This Weekend

Saturday continues a tiny sprinkle or shower chance, while most areas see a mix of sun and clouds. I expect we’ll have more sun in the afternoon than the morning with highs in the upper 80s.

The heat turns up a notch on Sunday with highs in the mid 90s thanks to more sunshine.

There is a level 1 out of 5 severe weather threat for the Austin metro and our eastern counties Sunday afternoon into the evening. Large hail and damaging wind gusts would be our primary threat.

Next week

The heat continues next week along with plenty of humidity. Daily high temperatures should push into the mid 90s, but the humid air will make it feel close to 100ยบ at times.

While early in the week rain chances are low, we’ll see a slowly increasing rain and storm chance by the middle and end of the week as a cold front makes an approach. How wet, stormy or severe our rain chances may be will be determined as we get closer.
