27 individually wrapped cocaine packages wash ashore in Galveston

GALVESTON, Texas — Plenty of items wash ashore in Galveston. That apparently includes bundles of drugs.

That’s exactly what was found Tuesday on the island’s west end. Police got the call a little after 9 a.m. about reports of suspected drugs that washed ashore along FM 3005.

When they got there, they found 27 individually wrapped packages scattered across the sand. The packages were collected and taken to the Galveston County Justice Center, where testing confirmed there was cocaine inside.

Police are urging anyone who comes across any suspicious packages to keep their distance and contact police. The concern, police say, is the uncertainty of what drugs — or other dangerous substances — may be inside any given package.

Anyone who finds packages on the beach is asked to call the Galveston Police Department at 409-765-3702.
