These 10 Houston neighborhoods ranked highest for affordability in 2026

A new Nextdoor report ranks the most affordable neighborhoods in Houston for 2026 based on housing costs, rent and local economic data.

HOUSTON — As housing costs continue to shape where families choose to live, a new report from Nextdoor highlights the Houston-area neighborhoods the company says offer the most affordable cost-of-living conditions in 2026.

The rankings come as summer moving season ramps up, a time when many families begin searching for homes ahead of the next school year.

According to Nextdoor, the report analyzed housing costs, income and broader economic data to identify neighborhoods where buyers and renters may find more affordable living options.

The company said the rankings are based on a combination of third-party economic data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Tax Foundation and the Bureau of Economic Analysis, along with activity and engagement data from users on the Nextdoor platform.

The data included factors such as median home values, rental prices, regional price parity and tax rates.

Nextdoor named Benton Place as Houston’s most affordable neighborhood for 2026.

The company’s top 10 most affordable Houston neighborhoods are:

Benton Place: Nextdoor describes Benton Place as a quiet, family-friendly Houston neighborhood known for tree-lined streets, well-maintained homes and easy access to city amenities.

Lyncrest: Lyncrest is known for its mix of older homes and new construction, offering a quiet residential feel with convenient access to Houston’s city center and local amenities.

Forum Park: Forum Park is a diverse Houston neighborhood with affordable housing options, local parks and convenient access to public transportation.

Saunders Road: Saunders Road is described as a peaceful residential neighborhood with well-kept homes, friendly neighbors and a strong sense of community.

Westwood-South: Westwood-South features a diverse community, affordable housing and easy access to Houston’s major highways and local amenities.

Scarlet Robin Ln: Scarlet Robin Lane is known for its quiet atmosphere, well-kept homes and convenient access to nearby amenities for families and retirees.

Ranchester: Ranchester is a vibrant, multicultural Houston neighborhood known for its diverse food scene and proximity to Chinatown.

Meadowbrook: Meadowbrook offers affordable housing, a close-knit community and convenient access to downtown Houston and nearby parks.

Bayou Oaks 2: Bayou Oaks 2 is known for its lush greenery, bayou access and quiet residential environment popular with families and professionals.

Port Houston: Port Houston combines residential and commercial areas near one of the busiest seaports in the world, giving the neighborhood a strong industrial character.

“For most people, buying a home is the single largest financial decision of their lives, and cost is almost always the defining factor in where they can afford to plant roots,” said Kelsey Grady, EVP of Communications at Nextdoor. “What makes Nextdoor uniquely valuable is that we can go beyond the listing price and help people understand the real financial picture of a neighborhood.”

Nextdoor said its Affordability Score functions as an index ranking neighborhoods within the same city. The company noted that neighborhoods in different cities should not be directly compared because each city’s rankings are calculated independently.

According to Nextdoor, the score combines neighborhood-level housing and cost-of-living indicators, including rents, home values and other economic measures, along with some platform data.
