Family of Houston mother killed in triple murder-suicide releases first and only statement

The family wants her to be remembered by her maiden name — Thy Mai. They also announced a foundation honoring her and her two children, Maya and Max.

For the first time, we are hearing from the family of a Houston wife and mother, killed in a triple murder-suicide.

Police say Matthew Mitchell murdered his wife, Thy, and their two young children before killing himself.

The family says they want thy to be remembered by her maiden name – Mai.

Her family tells us police made the horrific discovery during a welfare check after the children’s babysitter went to pick them up from school, only to learn they had never arrived.

Thy Mai’s family says the family’s businesses, Traveler’s Table and Traveler’s Cart, will continue normal operations at this time.

The statement went on to say the family is creating the Thy Mai Foundation in honor of Thy, Maya, and Max, and their lasting impact on the community. They also expressed their gratitude that the Greater Houston Chapter of the Texas Restaurant Association has established a scholarship in their memory.
