City of San Antonio begins opening public pools for weekend swimming

As the summer scorch sets in, San Antonio Parks and Recreation will open seven preseason outdoor pools on Saturdays and Sundays starting this weekend.

The pools will operate 1-7 p.m. both Saturdays and Sundays going forward and will remain open on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25.

To celebrate, Parks and Rec will host a Movie in the Pool night featuring the 1975 classic Jaws at Woodlawn Lake on Sunday, May 24. The screening will start at 8:30 p.m., and it’s a free, first-come, first-served event with no registration required.

In addition, Lap Swim and Aqua Fitness will open at Woodlawn Lake on Tuesday, May 26, and will continue weekly from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, Once the Summer season begins, all 24 outdoor pools will open to the public. 

Pre-season pools include:

  • Elmendorf Lake: 3700 West Commerce St.
  • Fairchild: 1214 E. Crockett St.
  • Heritage: 1423 S. Ellison Drive
  • Kinsborough: 350 Felps St.
  • Lady Bird Johnson: 10700 Nacogdoches Road
  • Spring Time: 6571 Spring Time Drive
  • Woodlawn Lake: 221 Alexander Ave.
