HOUSTON — Nearly a week after a man died after being shot on a METRO bus in southwest Houston, police have identified the suspect, who’s still not in custody.
On Thursday, Houston Police Department investigators announced that they are looking for Carltonio Jackson, who’s charged with murder.
HPD officials said Jackson, 22, shot Phillip Ogiemwonyi, 35, during an argument on the bus.
The shooting happened on May 23 around 2:30 p.m.
The shooting happened near the intersection of West Bellfort Avenue and Kirby Drive, just south of the South Loop near NRG Stadium.
When HPD investigators got to the scene, Ogiemwonyi was on the sidewalk. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
There were other people on the bus at the time of the shooting, but no one else was hurt.
After the shooting, police said Jackson ran away and was last seen heading westbound on West Bellfort and then southbound on Center Point Drive.
On Monday, HPD issued a release with surveillance images of Jackson and asked for the public’s help identifying him.
Anyone with information on Jackson’s whereabouts is asked to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
