Election results: How Houston voted in special election runoff to fill City Council District C seat

It’s a seat left open by Abbie Kamin, who left to run for Harris County attorney. It now moves to a runoff of May 16.

HOUSTON — Saturday was Election Day in Houston, as voters headed to the polls in the special election runoff for District C. It’s a seat left vacant when Abbie Kamin stepped down to run for Harris County Attorney.

The runoff race is between Joe Panzarrella and Nick Hellyer after neither candidate received more than 50% of the vote in the earlier special election. The winner will serve through January 2028.

At the Metropolitan Multi-Service Center on West Gray Saturday, several voters told KHOU 11 they believe local elections have some of the biggest impacts on daily life. Voters cited neighborhood concerns ranging from quality-of-life issues to infrastructure, including requests to restore the bridge lights on the 59th Street bridge. Others said every vote matters, especially in local races that directly affect Houston communities.

District C goes from far northwest Houston to the southwest. Here is a map to show the area it covers.
