A new UH poll shows where key Harris County and Texas runoff races stand as early voting begins next week.
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — With early voting set to begin next Monday, a new survey from the University of Houston Hobby School of Public Affairs is offering a fresh look at where candidates stand in several key Texas primary runoff races.
The survey, which included 1,200 people last week, examined both Harris County and statewide Democratic runoff contests ahead of Election Day later this month.
Parker leads Plummer in Harris County judge runoff
In the Democratic runoff race for Harris County judge, the survey shows Annise Parker leading Letitia Plummer by 18 percentage points.
Whoever wins the Democratic runoff will face the winner of the Republican runoff in November.
That Republican runoff is between Orlando Sanchez and Warren Howell.
Statewide Democratic runoff races remain unsettled
In the Democratic runoff for Texas lieutenant governor, Vikki Goodwin holds a strong lead over Marcos Velez.
However, the survey found that 40% of voters remain undecided in that race.
Meanwhile, in the Democratic runoff for Texas attorney general, Nathan Johnson holds a slight lead over Joe Jaworski.
The survey found that 38% of voters in that race are still undecided.
Important runoff election dates approaching
According to the survey, Harris County is expected to cast one-fifth of all ballots during the runoff election.
Voters will not have much time left to make their decisions.
The first day of early voting in the runoff elections is Monday, May 18.
Early voting ends Friday, May 22.
Runoff Election Day is Tuesday, May 26.
