Plano Rides, the city’s new on-demand transportation program for residents 65 and older, provided 315 rides in its first week.
PLANO, Texas — Plano residents are embracing the city’s new on-demand transportation service for older adults, with hundreds of rides booked during the program’s first week, the city said Thursday.
Currently, rides are free through June 4, 2026.
The City of Plano said Plano Rides by Via provided 315 trips during its first week of operation after launching on May 4. The service is currently available to residents age 65 and older and is designed to help users access essential services and community destinations throughout the city.
According to the city, riders used the service to travel to libraries, recreation centers, grocery stores and medical appointments. Officials also said 772 users downloaded the Plano Rides app during the first week.
The curb-to-curb transportation program operates throughout the city and within a 1.5-mile buffer zone surrounding the city.
“Plano Rides is already helping residents get where they need to go safely, affordably and conveniently,” Plano Mayor John Muns said in a statement.
The city also reported strong early customer satisfaction, with 98.1% of riders giving the service a five-star rating.
Plano Rides operates from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends.
After June 4, fares will be $1.50 per ride or $3 for an unlimited daily pass and $1 for each additional passenger. Children 5 and younger ride free.
Trips can be booked through the Plano Rides app, online or by phone. Wheelchair-accessible vehicles are available, though the city said the service is not intended to replace DART paratransit services.
