A bill introduced by U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, would rename U.S. Highway 287, which runs through the Lone Star State, after President Donald Trump.

The proposed legislation would rename the highway to Interstate 47 in honor of the 47th President. The interstate stretches from Port Aransas through Fort Worth and continues on through Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana.

“My bill will upgrade one of our nation’s longest highways to a future interstate and save more than $5 BILLION in travel costs, all while honoring the most effective and influential president of our lifetime,” Cornyn wrote in a social media post

Cornyn introduced the legislation on the Senate floor right before he heads into a May 26 runoff with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, a MAGA acolyte challenging the incumbent Senator for his seat. The two have jockeyed the entire primary season for Trump’s endorsement, which he has teased and demurred on repeatedly.

Could this finally be enough for an 11th hour endorsement?

“Texas is Trump Country & this bill cements @POTUS’ legacy by designating nearly 1,800 miles of open road to forever be known as the Trump Interstate,” Cornyn added in his announcement.
