The YouTuber-turned-boxer opened up about his broken jaw injury nearly six months after the fight with Anthony Joshua.
WASHINGTON — YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul is still healing from a broken jaw injury sustained during his last fight in December with heavyweight Anthony Joshua.
Paul opened up about his injury and weighed in on his future in the boxing world during a new interview on “The Ariel Helwani Show.” The 29-year-old said he’s set to get a new round of scans on his jaw in the next couple of days and doctors will give him an update on his healing process and when he might be able to return to the ring.
“We’ll see what my doctors say. I think I’ll be able to get a more accurate timeframe, or you know, can I even fight again? That is definitely in the realm of possibilities of things,” he said.
Paul said that his jaw “feels a lot better,” but he needs to “get cleared first to be able to spar” again.
In December, Paul lost for a second time in his 14-match boxing career when facing British heavyweight Joshua. The fight left Paul with a broken jaw and sidelined him for months from the ring. Joshua knocked down Paul four times before a knockout in the sixth round.
When asked if his boxing future was in doubt, Paul said “most definitely.”
“I think it just depends on like, how the bone heals,” he added. “Then there’s also a tooth missing here. Like, I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to get an implanted tooth of some sort. I don’t know how much time that’s going to add to things; we just have to see and figure out what the smartest thing is for me.”
Paul added that while the doubts have come up, he’s “not done” with boxing.
“I can just feel it in my spirit and soul, and my heart that I have more fights left and unfinished business in my mind,” he said. “Injuries are part of any sport. I think this could be a good outcome… I definitely don’t think I’m done and want to keep on fighting.”
Paul also added that his fiancée Jutta Leerdam, whom he cheered on from the sidelines at the 2026 Winter Olympics, is in “both boats.” Leerdam is a Dutch speedskater who won gold at the Winter Games in Milan.
“She understands being an athlete and like having that feeling inside of you of wanting to prove yourself more and to compete and the love of that,” he said. “But she also knows I don’t have to fight and all of these things and there’s so many amazing businesses that I’m working on and are crushing it that she has also mentioned the other side of like, ‘yeah, you don’t actually need to do this.'”
“But she’s supportive of whatever decision I make,” he added.
