Newark, Texas: Truck crashes into house

Call logs show officials were called to the scene at a house in the 1200 block of Melissa Cove in Tarrant County shortly before 11 a.m. Friday.

HASLET, Texas — A driver was hospitalized after a truck crashed into a house in North Texas on Friday, deputies say.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m., deputies responded to a crash near FM Road 718 and Newark Ranch Road in Tarrant County. When they arrived, they found a dump truck had plowed through the wall of a home in the 1200 block of Melissa Cove.

A sedan that was also involved in the crash ended up on the nearby train tracks, deputies said.

WFAA chopper footage from the scene showed the dump truck had rolled over and crashed into the house near its garage. The chopper footage also showed dirt tracks leading to the house and a broken fence, indicating the truck crashed through the fence before hitting the house.

Tarrant County Sheriff’s deputies say a Mercedes heading northbound on 718 blew out a tire, veered into the oncoming lane and hit the truck, which caused the truck to go off-road and crash into the house.

“He attempted to avoid a head-on collision. Doing so, he left the road, overcorrected and ended up going through the backyard into this residence,” said Newark Fire Department Capt. Rusty Peace.

The driver was identified as Dale Collins, who is the owner of Dale Collins Trucking.

“We came into the neighborhood and I saw it rolled over. I don’t think I ever ran so fast,” said Collins’ daughter, Chelsea Stone.

Stone told WFAA that her dad’s dog was also inside the truck and was not injured. Collins was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, but is expected to be OK, deputies say. Stone told

“There was a laceration on his face. He’s going to be sore for a while,” Stone said.

The driver of the Mercedes was checked for minor injuries and released, and EMS also checked and released the homeowner, officials say.

“Out of 27 years, this is my third vehicle into a house,” Peace said.

TCSO said the cause of the crash is under investigation.

“I’m so glad he’s okay and everybody else,” Stone said.
