Man hit, killed while crossing SH 6 at intersection, HPD says

The Houston Police Department told KHOU 11’s Michelle Choi that a man in his 30s to 40s was hit and killed at an intersection, and the driver took off.

HOUSTON — Houston police are investigating a deadly crash involving a pedestrian that happened along Highway 6 early Sunday morning.

The crash happened along Highway 6 near the Park Hollow area shortly before 2:45 a.m.

The Houston Police Department told KHOU 11’s Michelle Choi that a man in his 30s to 40s was hit and killed at an intersection, and the driver took off.

Investigators said witnesses reported that the man was hit by an SUV while crossing the street at the intersection. HPD noted that the spot the man was trying to cross was not within a marked crosswalk.

Shortly after the crash, authorities found a stalled-out vehicle along the Southwest Freeway near the Sam Houston Tollway with heavy front-end and windshield damage after an alert about the crash was broadcast to nearby agencies. Police said the driver of that vehicle, believed to be in his 50s, was taken into custody for questioning.

Investigators were working to confirm whether that vehicle was involved in the deadly crash.
