Mark Cuban donates $30k to help UTD basketball team make trip to the United Kingdom

The team has since been able to raise $13k on their own, and with Cuban’s donation, they now only have $17k left to raise.

IRVING, Texas — Mark Cuban has donated $30,000 to help a Dallas basketball team make their trip to the U.K.a reality.

As WFAA previously reported, the University of Dallas basketball team worked all season to raise money, all to allow one of their senior players the opportunity to play in front of their friends and family. The team raised the money, but was left with $60,000 in debt after the travel company they were using for their trip to London declared bankruptcy, ceasing all operations.

“It was a complete punch to the gut,” Head Coach Matt Grahn said. “Just devastation.”

Since losing the money, Grahn has been looking for donations — or even sponsorships — to try to make it happen.

“I’ve been telling people I don’t mind looking like a NASCAR crew more than a basketball team,” he said.

The team has since been able to raise $13,000 on their own, and with Cuban’s donation, they now only have $17,000 left to raise.

“Mark Cuban committed to donating $30k toward our trip today [Wednesday]. Absolutely incredible!!!,” said Grahn.
