A man is charged with the 1986 murder of Deanna Ogg, a cold case revived with advanced DNA technology, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man in connection with the nearly 40-year-old cold case murder of 16-year-old Deanna Ogg, authorities announced Monday. Bobby Charles Taylor Sr. is now in custody at the Montgomery County Jail, charged with the capital murder of Ogg, who was killed in 1986.
Investigators say the arrest was made possible through the use of advanced DNA technology. The sheriff’s office plans to share additional details at a press conference scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, 1 Criminal Justice Drive in Conroe, Texas. Watch the news conference on KHOU 11 Local News 24/7.
In 1990, the Harris County medical examiner said Ogg died from a skull fracture and stab wounds.
Doolittle is expected to speak at the conference, along with cold case detectives, representatives from the Texas Rangers and the FBI, and members of Ogg’s family.
The sheriff’s office has not yet released further details about the circumstances of the alleged crime or how investigators identified Taylor as a suspect. Additional information, including photos, is expected to be provided at the conclusion of Wednesday’s press conference.
Exoneration in the case
Roy Criner served 10 years in prison after being convicted of aggravated sexual assault of Ogg. The case went to trial in 1990, and the Innocence Project said that he was convicted despite holes in the prosecution’s case. A higher court dismissed the case, but it was reinstated on appeal. In 2000, Criner was pardoned after multiple pieces of evidence were DNA tested again.
