Humble ISD confirmed a student was arrested Friday after bringing a gun to campus Friday.
HUMBLE, Texas — A Humble parent is raising concerns about school safety after she says a student pulled a gun on her daughter inside Ross Sterling Middle School.
Humble ISD confirmed a student was arrested Friday after bringing a gun to campus.
Princess Jefferson said her 12-year-old daughter was in eighth period Friday afternoon when a boy pointed a gun at her and two other students.
She said her daughter ran away screaming and told her teacher who then ran after the young boy.
She said the school was not placed on lockdown and no alert was sent to parents.
“So this young man went all day with a gun at school and no one knew,” Jefferson said.
In a letter sent to parents Sunday, the school’s principal said administrators were not notified about the gun until students were being dismissed.
A Humble ISD spokesperson said that because hundreds of students had already left campus, officials decided not to issue a lockdown.
Humble ISD police launched an investigation that led to a search warrant at the student’s home. Investigators said they found a gun there and arrested the student.
The student is being held at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center. District officials said if the student is released, he will not be allowed to return to the school.
Jefferson said her daughter was too afraid to return to class Monday.
“She’s worried about her safety in school when that should be the last thing she’s worried about,” Jefferson said.
Jefferson also said no one from the district has offered counseling services to her daughter.
Humble ISD plans to install Evolv weapons detection systems at Ross Sterling Middle School by the end of 2027. The metal detectors are already in place at district high schools and Turner Stadium.
“Why 2027? Why not now?” Jefferson said. “Summer is coming up. They have the entire summer to work on this by the time the school year starts in August.”
