San Antonio family seeks justice after hit-and-run kills beloved father of three

Joseph Haro was found lying unconscious in the road around 1 a.m. and later died at the hospital.

SAN ANTONIO — A late-night hit-and-run killed a San Antonio, Texas father of three, leaving his family mourning and calling for justice.

They remember 37-year-old Joseph Haro as a man who brought light into every room.

“My brother was loving, caring, humble,” sister Sandra Haro said. “He would always want us to laugh.”

Family video shows Joseph smiling and joking with relatives — moments they say capture who he truly was.

“He would always cheer us up. He was the one who would always come to us and say, ‘Hey, you know, life is good. God is good,’” Sandra said.

Joseph leaves behind two daughters and a son. His sister calls him “a good, good father.”

That love and laughter turned into heartbreak in the early morning hours of April 24.

Sandra says her son woke her around 3 a.m. with urgent news.

“My son came into my room… he told me, ‘Mom, we have to go to the hospital,’” she recalled. “At that time it was like a dream. I thought I was dreaming.”

San Antonio police said officers found Joseph unconscious in the roadway near the intersection of Medina Base Road and Loop 410 around 1 a.m. A driver who was turning onto the road stopped and called for help.

Joseph was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, where he later died.

Police say the driver responsible fled the scene and has not been found.

Now, Joseph’s family is left searching for answers — and accountability.

“I just want to tell him, to please turn himself in,” Sandra said. “It was late at night and I understand, but… to think that he just left my brother there to die.”

“I’m going to miss my little brother. I loved him so much. And he gave love to so many people,” Sandra said.

Joseph was serving as a caregiver for his mother and was not working at the time of his death, leaving the family without financial resources to cover costs. They set up a fundraiser to help pay for funeral expenses.
