Texas A&M-Texarkana nursing student dies only days before receiving bachelor’s degree

This is the second student in two weeks to have passed away.

TEXARKANA, Texas — Another student at Texas A&M-Texarkana has died, just days before receiving his Bachelor’s Degree, the university announced Saturday.

The university said in a release that Michael Pritchard, a Texarkana native, had died before he was set to graduate on May 8.

Pritchard was a nursing student in the College of Nursing, Health, and Human Services. It was unclear Saturday how Pritchard died.

“The A&M-Texarkana community was heartbroken to learn of Michael’s passing,” said Texas A&M University-Texarkana President Dr. Ross Alexander. “He was a dedicated healthcare professional who was about to graduate with his bachelor’s degree in nursing. His family and friends will remain in our thoughts during this difficult time.”

This is the second time in two weeks a Texas A&M-Texarkana has died. On April 25, the university said Graycen Vargo, a Dallas-based long distance runner for the Texas A&M University-Texarkana Track and Field team, died after collapsing during a competition.
