Splendora ISD elementary school teacher accused of sexual assault of a child

Investigators are asking anyone who believes they’re a victim to come forward.

SPLENDORA, Texas — A Splendora ISD elementary school teacher has been arrested on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, according to a news release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said Rene Jesus Tavera-Arango, 70, was taken into custody following an investigation by the sheriff’s Special Victims Unit. 

Tavera-Arango has been a teacher at Splendora ISD’s Peach Creek Elementary for the past two years.. Authorities said multiple students came forward with allegations of sexual abuse that they said happened at the school. 

The sheriff’s office said Tavera-Arango has worked in other area school districts for the past 14 years, including previous positions at Navasota ISD and Cleveland ISD.

He is being held on a $250,000 bond.

The investigation remains ongoing. The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information or who may have been a victim to contact the Special Victims Unit at (936) 760-5876.
