Two women were nearly assaulted at Shepherd Park in northwest Houston on consecutive days at the end of August.
HOUSTON — A juvenile suspect believed to be responsible for attacking women at a northwest Houston park has been arrested, Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen announced Tuesday.

The Houston Police Department made the arrest in cooperation with Constable Precinct One, ending a search that began after two women were attacked in broad daylight at Shepherd Park on August 27 and 28.
“A juvenile suspect believed to be responsible for recent attacks in Shepherd Park is in custody,” Rosen posted on social media. “He was arrested by our Houston Police partners who have been investigating in cooperation with Constable Pct. One.”
The attacks occurred on consecutive days on the popular trail. One woman was dragged into the bushes but managed to escape after yelling “fire” to attract help from other park visitors. Both victims walked away uninjured, according to authorities.
The brazen nature of the attacks, happening in broad daylight at a busy park, prompted immediate concern from law enforcement officials.
“Somebody’s willing to attack somebody in the open, broad daylight, there’s a real call for concern,” Rosen told KHOU 11 following the incidents.
The attacks led to increased patrols in both marked and unmarked vehicles at Shepherd Park. Authorities also issued safety recommendations for trail users, including walking in pairs, keeping only one earbud in while exercising, and carrying a whistle for emergencies.
