Carnival Cruise Line will add Horizon and Spirit to Galveston’s 2027 lineup as Dream departs, keeping four ships homeported in Texas.
GALVESTON, Texas — Carnival Cruise Line is expanding its footprint in Galveston, announcing plans to base four ships out of the Texas port during the 2027/28 season.
The lineup will include Carnival Horizon and Carnival Spirit, which will homeport in Galveston for the first time, joining Carnival Breeze and Carnival Jubilee, according to the company.
“Galveston is one of our most popular homeports, and this new deployment continues our commitment to our Texas guests and the community by adding more variety than ever,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. She noted that the four ships sailing from Galveston represent different classes, giving travelers “more choices as they personalize their future cruise vacations.”
This shift comes as Carnival Dream prepares to leave Galveston in May 2027, sailing its final cruises from Texas before returning to New Orleans as its new homeport.
Carnival Horizon
The nearly 4,000-guest ship will debut from Galveston on May 19, 2027, with an eight-day Western Caribbean cruise. After that, it will run four- and five-day trips to destinations like Cozumel and Progreso, with more than 70 sailings scheduled through April 2028.
Carnival Horizon will bring added capacity to Galveston and features restaurants such as JiJi’s Asian Kitchen and Cucina del Capitano, family-friendly attractions like SkyRide and Carnival WaterWorks, and entertainment including Playlist Productions and comedy shows.
Carnival Spirit
Carnival Spirit, carrying more than 2,000 guests, will arrive in Galveston after its Alaska season and a repositioning voyage through the Panama Canal. Beginning Oct. 11, 2027, it will offer a mix of four- to six-day Caribbean itineraries and longer 10- and 16-day Journeys sailings. The unique 16-day trip from Seattle to Galveston on Sept. 25, 2027, will include a full Panama Canal transit.
Onboard amenities include Guy’s Burger Joint, Bonsai Sushi and Alchemy Bar.
Carnival Breeze
Carnival Breeze will shift to a new seven-day schedule in May 2027, sailing both Western and Eastern Caribbean routes with stops such as Celebration Key, Key West, Nassau, and Montego Bay. Notable trips include a Christmas sailing on Dec. 18, 2027, and two 14-day Journeys voyages.
Carnival Jubilee
Carnival’s flagship Jubilee will continue offering six- and eight-day itineraries, including Bahamas trips featuring Celebration Key and Half Moon Cay. The 6,400-guest ship was the first LNG-powered cruise ship to operate from Texas and features more than 30 dining and entertainment venues.
Why it matters
With four ships sailing from Galveston, Carnival says it will remain the largest cruise operator in Texas during the 2027/28 season. The deployment underscores Galveston’s growing role as one of the nation’s busiest cruise ports.
Carnival plans to announce additional details about its 2027/28 schedule in the coming weeks.
