Nurse sues former director over hidden cameras at Texas hospital

Robert Shrader is charged with seven counts of invasive visual recording after investigators said he installed hidden cameras in both staff and public restrooms.

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — A nurse at Memorial Hermann Hospital in The Woodlands has filed a lawsuit against the hospital’s former patient care director, who is already facing criminal charges.

Robert Shrader is charged with seven counts of invasive visual recording after investigators said he installed hidden cameras in both staff and public restrooms at the hospital.

The nurse, who is not named in the lawsuit, said Shrader’s alleged actions caused her severe mental anguish, emotional distress and psychological trauma. She claims one of the cameras was hidden in the staff restroom, a facility she used often, and believes it recorded her in multiple stages of undress.

According to the lawsuit, photos show areas in the ceiling where a hospital construction team discovered one of the cameras. Investigators said about 300 images were recovered and, so far, only seven people have been identified. The lawsuit also claims Shrader himself appears in some of the recordings, allegedly showing him installing the devices.

At the time, Shrader was serving as patient care director and supervising nurses at the hospital. The plaintiff said she felt humiliated and violated knowing a person in a position of authority could have secretly viewed her in such a vulnerable state.

Two more cameras were later found after a security sweep — one in another single-stall restroom and another inside Shrader’s office, according to the lawsuit.

Shrader is currently out on bond as investigators continue to review the footage and work to identify more possible victims.
