Breaking La Marque news: Gas leak prompts shelter in place

The order was in place for a few blocks near Bayou and First streets. The gas leak was “isolated.”

LA MARQUE, Texas β€” The City of La Marque in Galveston County issued an emergency shelter-in-place order covering a few blocks due to a gas leak Monday afternoon. The order was later lifted.

The affected area was near First and Laurel streets. At 3:55 p.m., the city announced on social media that the gas leak was isolated and the order was lifted.

The city said on social media that a third party contractor struck a gas line. Fire, police and CenterPoint were on scene to evaluate the leak.

Air 11 showed a crew with an excavator digging a hole in the affected area. Multiple people stood nearby the work.
