FHP: Texas man arrested for DUI in fatal crash on Gandy Boulevard in St. Pete

Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested 36-year-old Robert Chase Self in connection to the crash. FHP said Self hit a St. Pete man who was on an “electric cycle.”

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 36-year-old Texas man was arrested for driving under the influence after being involved in a deadly crash on Gandy Boulevard in St. Pete early Saturday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP said the Texas man, identified as Robert Chase Self, was traveling eastbound on Gandy Boulevard in a Chevy Silverado at 3:05 a.m. when he hit a 43-year-old St. Pete man at the 4th Street North intersection.

Troopers said the St. Pete man was on an “electric cycle” and was also traveling eastbound on Gandy Boulevard.

After the collision, FHP said the St. Pete man was taken to a local hospital where he died of injuries suffered in the crash.

According to FHP, Self was arrested for DUI and refused a breath test.
