Houston ISD high schools rank among best in country

The rankings include data on more than 24,000 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia.

HOUSTON — The Houston Independent School District is home to some of the country’s best high schools, according to new rankings from U.S. News and World Report.

Carnegie Vanguard High School came in at No. 42 in the country, while DeBakey High School for Health Professions ranked No. 75 in the United States.

Students at Carnegie have a 100% graduation rate with an enrollment of 824. The rankings show students graduate with a college readiness rating of 100.

The graduation rate sits at about 98% for DeBakey students. The school’s enrollment for 9th through 12th grade is 922, and its college readiness score is 89.2.

Several other HISD schools landed in the top 700:

  • Challenge Early College High School: #144
  • Kinder High School for Performing and Visual Arts: #160
  • Young Women’s College Prep Academy: #199
  • Eastwood Academy: #214
  • North Houston Early College High School: #479
  • East Early College High School: #516
  • Sharpstown International School: #587
  • Energy Institute High School: #645
  • Houston Academy for International Studies: #653
