Why is my energy bill higher in Houston? Seasonal jump happens Monday

The seasonal rates take effect every fall and typically drop again in March.

HOUSTON — Starting Monday, September 1, electricity bills in Houston are going up.

For a typical home using 1,000 kilowatt-hours, the average monthly charge will jump from about $49 to nearly $63.

The jump in cost comes from a higher transmission and distribution fee set by CenterPoint Energy.

The seasonal rates take effect every year in the fall and typically come back down in March.
